During the course of the feature Jon battled amongst the top five before crossing the finish line in third behind race winner, Patrik Daniel and Robert Baker. Tyler Erb and Chandler Petty rounded out the top five finishers.

1November 8th, 2014 - Jon Mitchell returned to the seat of his #5 Team 5 Enterprise/HealthCARE Express Open Wheel Modified over the weekend to compete in the 8th Annual Winter Nationals at Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana).

The mega event, sanctioned by the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) kicked off on Thursday night with a $2,000-to-win program. A stout field of sixty-six Open Wheel Modifieds registered for the event, and a sixth place finish in his heat race left Mitchell just short of locking into the 30 lap feature. As a result Jon would have to run a b-main where he advanced from ninth to sixth, but only the top four finishers moved on to the main event, bringing his night to an early end.

With a $3,000 prize on the line, seventy-two entries converged on the 3/8 mile oval for Friday evening's event. An eleventh to sixth run in his heat race left Mitchell just short of locking into the 40 lap feature, which sent him to a b-main. Unfortunately, Jon failed to reach a transfer spot in his b-main, once again bringing his night to a disappointing early end.

Seventy Open Wheel Modified registered for the $4,000-to-win, 8th Annual Winter Nationals finale on Saturday night. A second place finish in his heat race was not enough to lock Jon into the main event, forcing him to run a b-main. He went on to win his b-main, earning him the fourteenth starting spot on the feature grid. Mitchell battled around mid-pack throughout the course of the 50 lapper before settling to a seventeenth place finish at the checkered flag.
