1September 27th, 2014 - Jon Mitchell entered the opening night of the annual Armadillo Nationals on Thursday evening at Lonestar Speedway (Kilgore, Texas) as a strong field of forty-five Open Wheel Modifieds registered in preliminary action for the $10,000-to-win event.

Jon missed the transfer into the A-Qualifier via heat race action, but later finished third in his b-main to lock into the 21st starting position on the grid. During the course of the 25 lap, preliminary feature Mitchell advanced six spot to record a fifteenth place finish.

The second night of preliminary action was held on Friday evening, and after advancing from third to finish second in his heat race, Mitchell moved onto the A-Qualifier, where he started eighth. Mitchell battled in the top ten throughout the event before crossing the finish line in the third position behind race winner, Chris Brown, and Steve Whiteaker. Justin Ingalls and Bobb Malchus rounded out the top five finishers.

Despite his struggles on Night #1, Jon accumulated enough points to lock into the sixth starting spot for Saturday night's $10,000-to-win finale.

In Saturday's main event, Mitchell battled around the top five for much of the event before ultimately crossing the finish line in sixth behind race winner, Chris Brown, Steve Whiteaker, Rodney Wing, Chris Henigan and Johnny Scott.
