June 9th, 2017 - Jon Mitchell was back behind the wheel of his Murphy & Son Timber #5 Open Wheel Modified on Tuesday night for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) sanctioned event at Caney Valley Speedway (Caney Valley, Kansas). Holding his starting position in his heat race, Mitchell logged a 5th place finish sending him into the B-Main. Transferring the Top 5 into the opening night feature, Jon scored a runner-up finish behind Ryan Gustin locking him into the 15th-starting spot for the A-Main. Losing three positions in the 40-lapper, Jon Mitchell registered an 18th place finish.

Following the USMTS on Wednesday, Jon was one of 37 cars signed in at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kansas) for the 6th annual Summit “Showdown in the Playground”. Gaining three spots in his heat, Mitchell landed a runner-up finish behind Zack VanderBeek positioning him on the pole for the feature. Taking the lead on the drop of the green flag, Jon Mitchell never let go of the top spot leading all 40 circuits en route to his first win of the season and first career USMTS victory. On Thursday night Mitchell headed to Salina Speedway (Salina, Kansas) for another USMTS sanctioned event. Losing two positions in his heat race, Jon scored a 3rd place finish transferring him into the B-Main. Sending the Top 5 into the feature, Mitchell stormed to a consolation victory locking him into the 14th-starting spot for the feature. Losing one position in the 40-lapper, Jon Mitchell posted a 14th place finish.

Friday night brought Mitchell to Thunderbird Speedway (Muskogee, Oklahoma) to pilot his Super Late Model in the MARS DIRTcar West Series sanctioned program. Recording a 3rd place finish in his heat race, Mitchell secured his spot into the Michael Hornback Benefit A-Main. With $4,000 on the line, Jon Mitchell reeled in a 3rd place finish behind Terry Phillips and Tony Jackson Jr. with Kyle Beard and Jacob Magee completing the Top 5 finishers.
