1January 18th, 2015 - The Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout continued at USA Raceway (Tucson, Arizona) on Saturday evening with a $3,000-to-win event.

After suffering a broken right thumb in a B-Main incident on Wednesday night, Jon and the team appeared to be done for the weekend. However, after doctoring his steering wheel with some plastic and wire-ties so that its center is solid, Jon decided to take a shot a racing on Saturday night. Rick Schwallie Photo

Mitchell started eighth in his heat race and would only be able to manage an eighth place finish, pinning him deep in a b-main. Unfortunately, Jon would fail to reach a transfer position in his b-main, bringing his night to an early end.

The Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout drew to a close on Sunday with a $10,000-to-win event. Jon started and finished fifth in his heat race, which send him to a b-main where he would start sixth. Unfortunately, the team's misfortune all week would only continue in the b-main when Mitchell made contact with outside wall on the opening circuit, bringing his night to a disappointing end.

Unfortunately, his night would come to an end before it ever really got started. With fifty Super Late Models converging on the 3/8 mile oval, Mitchell drew the sixth starting spot for his heat race. He advanced a few spots early on in the heat before contact with the backstretch wall sent him pitside. The damage to his #5 HealthCare Express/KHP Racing Engines/MasterSbilt Super Late Model would force Jon to scratch from the balance of the program, bringing his night to an early end.

Mitchell hoped for a better outing on Sunday as the winner's check increased to $5,000. Forty-nine entries registered for the event, and an eighth to fourth run in heat race action earned Jon the eleventh starting position on the feature grid. Jon raced around mid-pack throughout the duration of the 30 lap affair and recorded a fourteenth place finish in the final rundown.

The bad luck continued for Mitchell and Team 5 Enterprise on Wednesday night in Round #3 of the Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout. Forty-six competitors entered the $3,000-to-win program, and a high number in pill draw pinned Jon in the back of a heat race. Unfortunately, Mitchell was involved in a multi-car melee during his heat that brought his night to an early end.

Jon was taken to a local Emergency Room following the incident where he was diagnosed with a broken thumb. As a result of his injury and the damage to his #5 entry, Jon and the team have regretfully decided to scratch from the remainder of the week's events.
