Mitchell posts top-15 finish at Wild West Shootout
Jon Mitchell continued to lift the curtain on his 2024 season on Wednesday and Friday with a pair of race nights in the 18th annual Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout at Vado (N.M.) Speedway Park.
After participating in the two programs taking place during the six-race series’ first weekend, Mitchell climbed back aboard his W&W Timber No. 5 Modified on Wednesday as the event’s third round commenced. With 52 Modified competitors at the 3/8-mile track, he scored a third-place result in his heat race and started 11th in the 25-lap, $1,000-to-win A-Main. He came home in the 15th spot.
Following a scheduled off day on Thursday, Mitchell was one of 59 Modified drivers looking for another $1,000 first-place payout on Friday night. He was ninth in his heat, relegating him to the fifth row of his B-Main. Mitchell finished 18th and did not transfer into the 25-lap feature.
He did not participate in the two $2,000-to-win nights that closed out the Wild West Shootout on Saturday and Sunday.
